Balearic University: Three candidates to substitute the Rector

Balearic University: Three candidates to substitute the Rector
Finally, three are the candidates who are opting for the Balearic University Rectorial Elections. On March 28 the Electoral Commission announced the candidatures presented by Avel·lí Blasco Esteve (Administrative Law Professor), Pere Deyà Serra, (Organic Chemistry Professor) and Llorenç Valverde Garcia, (Mathematics and Computer Science Professor). The three candidates have electoral web pages where they present their programme and team, except for Llorenç Valverde who states "My team is all the university community". The election campaign, which has already begun with several speeches by the candidates, will end on April 9 and the elections will be held on April 11. If none of the candidates obtains more than 50% of the votes, on April 30 there will be a second round.

The votes for the Rectorial Elections is balanced between the different areas of the university community: 51% for full professors, 12 % for the rest of teachers and researchers, 25% for students and 12% for administrative and service employees.

The winner of the elections will substitute Llorenç Huguet, who has been the Rector of the University for eight years. Some months ago, the current Rector was elected as President of Sa Nostra and his replacement as head of the UIB will end this peculiar situation of holding two offices simultaneously.
